(JT Bates is a Twin Cities based drummer/producer/teacher)
Hey all. thanks so much for being on the internet.
I love to hear from people, so please hit me up about recording projects, shows, lessons, etc!
The LATEST things:
Spent the week of November 6th in New York with my family and Big Red Machine. We had an incredible show at Terminal 5, followed by an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. So grateful for this experience! Please check out the BRM record as well, out recently on jagjaguwar
I was recording in late October in Omaha with The Lowest Pair for Team Love, with Mike Mogis producing. Very organic and fun week with them.
Just returned from Berlin and PEOPLE fest. what an amazing experience. Played with Big Red Machine, Jenny Lewis, Bonny Light Horseman, and LULUC (that was with new drum friend Jason Treuting of So Percussion as well)
an overwhelming yet reaffirming situation with over 200 artists collaborating in multiple rooms in the same building for a week straight! Look for some live recordings to start appearing on the People player soon!
Now back in the Twin Cities for the rest of the year for the most part. Working on records, playing some shows, teaching some lessons, hanging with my family!
hope to see you out and about!
proud to be a part of this situation here, growing amounts of music to check out...i've got some of my ambient music up here as well as Big Red Machine (with Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner) tracks from Jeremy Ylvisaker, a Bonnie Light Horseman field recording from Eaux Claires rehearsal(with Anais Mitchell, Josh Kaufman, Eric Johnson, Bradley Cook) and LOUIS. So much music to check out here, please give it a gander!
Bon Iver & TUDance
little while back got to be a a part of this show with Bon Iver & TUDance. We did three nights at The Palace Theater in Saint Paul MN, right down the street from my house. Truly amazing experience on so many levels. There are videos floating around if you're so inclined. Here's one excerpt I really dig. Tiny little chopstick drums. An amazing band to be a part of with Justin, BJ Burton, and Mike Lewis.
just got back from a real fun tour with Hiss Golden Messenger..we played at Nola Jazz & Heritage fest, we did a bunch of dates with the amazing Trampled by Turtles(also my dear friends!) and we ended up at Red Rocks Amphitheater at the end. so fun. here's us in Asheville NC
